Some thoughts for you. Life is all consuming to all of us. Usually consisting of work, family, solving crises, getting ready for the next event, sermon, presentation….and of course for many of us “endless” meetings. I have meetings on my schedule every week. But, I know that my life and my business will become boring and frustrating if it doesn’t evolve and change. I have a few days where there are two hours dedicated on my calendar to creativity. Learning, reading, meeting with someone other than job related, thinking (yep…sometimes i just lie on a beanbag and think). Those are the scheduled appointments with myself and my creative juices(that often sit inside all by themselves and don’t get to come out and play) that help make my life and my work evolve. I highly recommend that when you work on your calendar, you schedule time in your week for evolving. creating. thinking.
And you have a list of those things that you want to read or write or think or research, or record…so that when you meeting alarm goes off on your iphone, you know what you are going to do with yourself. is this time any less important than the meetings you have with others to accomplish great tasks? This is just an encouragement in case you are feeling in a rut. Get outside your normal ordinary life and watch the extraordinary happen.

Yes! Yes! Yes! This is something that I forget to do too many times. When I do do it, though, I am so invigorated and have the joy and energy to keep going. Thanks for the encouragement and reminder to just block out that weekly creative time.

LOL….great picture. Great post. Thanks!
May I just say that I recently read “God Blogs” and it was amazing. I sat in the caffe of Barnes and Nobles as tears rolled down my cheeks as I read that first chapter.
I have passed it on to my 14 year old sister who just got saved at “Big Stuff” over the summer and it is rocking her world too! Thank you so much. Thank you for sharing God’s heart in a way that we can all grasp so intensely.

Lanny,
I totally understand what you are saying. Actually that is one reason I started blogging. I’m in my last semester of College taking 18 credits and working part time. I’ve found it difficult to find time to relax and read, write, or create anything that doesn’t directly tie into my school or work. Blogging has given me the opportunity to get my thoughts out there and available to create conversation about those things.
By The Way - This is the Patrick who drove up from southwest FL to Big Stuf in panama city by myself. I believe it was the 2002 summer. You let me stay with Reggie Joiner and his fam. You and I were able to talk for a little while about future and where I thought I was going. Just wanted to let you know that I’m still on track. I’ve been able to partner with some amazing people who push and pull me to grow spiritually. Thank you for the encouragement in the summer of 2002.. It’s still working.
